This collection belongs to the son of a Ph.D. plant pathologist who worked at the Tropical Research and Education Center in Homestead.

Mary was fascinated with mushrooms and made a number of pieces that had mushrooms in them. This plaque, though, is outstanding. It measures about 12″ x 48″. The wood that the pieces are mounted on does not look like something she did, though she could have had a cabinet maker in Homestead make it.

This owl plaque, made by Tom Blakley, has an interesting signature button on it. The button was made by Mary, because she made her letter “Y” with a curved bowl shape instead of a triangle. There are not many pieces in their oeuvre which have this particular button.

Mary also created a number of birds in her work. Some were flat pieces, some were sculptural and this one is acrylic on wood.
